Buick 3.8 V6 engines have the distributor in the front, Chevy 3.8 V6 engines have them in the back.

~

Any Buick engine with an external oil pump absolutely MUST have the correct oil filter with an anti-drainback valve in it. Other oil filters you have laying around may fit, but will not have the check valve in them. Without the anti-drainback feature, the oil will run backwards down the oil passages into the oil pan and the oil pump prime will be lost, resulting in rod knock and other catastrophic oil starvation damage.

The Buick V-6 and V-8 engines are a pain to install a distributor in, because of the brackets and alternator and there is really only one way where the vacuum advance diaphragm has a home. If you aren't dead on, you will short the wiring harness out on a corner. So. Grind one side of the distributor hold down washer so you don't have to take the bolt all the way out each time. Like a crescent moon. Or like you just took a really big bite out of a cookie too stale to crumble to pieces. Now. You just loosen the hold down bolt one turn and rotate the washer half a turn so you can pull the distributor in and out through the bite mark.

When installing the tin shield under the intake, paint a super thin layer of high temp silicone sealer on both sides around the water ports. Throw the end seals in the garbage. Get an 11 ounce tube of High Temp silicone into a caulking gun and lay down a crayon sized wet bead where the end seals would have been. Quickly helicopter the intake into place, especially if it is hot and humid as the RTV* pulls the H2O from the air to Vulcanize the silicone. Torque it up quickly from the middle bolts toward the end bolts using the specs and torque patterns you got from peeking at the repair manual at your local Barnes and Noble.
